So we were watching "The Sound of Metal". There's a scene where the main character smashes up a donut. I said out loud, I'd really a donut right now.
As soon as the movie ended, I got to working on this. We made a full set of regular glazed donuts. These were made with yeast and so they had the typical rising process I'd expect any other kind of bread to undergo. I did burn my finger in the deep fry oil, but it wasn't too bad.
The following afternoon we got the ingredients to make sour cream donuts. And wouldn't you know, I finally understand the technical difference between the two of them (regular donuts are made from dough; sour cream donuts are made from batter).
They all came out spectacularly well and are quite delicious.
