My recollection is that this party was actually for Gene and Vanessa's wedding. I think the idea of the party was for everyone to bring a bunch of liquor that would ultimately be used for drinks at their wedding.
As it happens, I didn't attend their wedding and so I can't confirm this from direct experience.
